The
Institute for Philosophy in Public Life encourages and advertises
WHY? listening parties as a means for people to gather and engage in
philosophy in the best way possible: as a community. Listening
parties are public events during which guests listen to a live
broadcast of WHY? and then talk about it afterwards. Party members
are encouraged to call the show with their own comments, and Jack
Weinstein, host of WHY? will happily mention the events on the air
whether they call-in with questions or not. To date, listening
parties have been held in coffee shops so as to provide a laidback
atmosphere and the added pleasure of food and drink, but parties can
be held anywhere – homes, schools, community centers, picnic areas –
any place where there is a radio and people. To announce your own
listening party, write:

WHY? Radio cannot succeed without community
involvement. We seek, not only callers during the show, but people
who want to create a community of participants who love ideas. We
don't want to just speak to you, we want our audience to speak back.
We want to listen even more than we want to talk, but we can't do
that without your help.
So please, don't
listen alone. Invite friends, or be brave and host a party for your
community. People will come and after the show, you'll have someone
to talk with. Someone to share food or a drink with -- a community
of inquiry to celebrate philosophy with.
Also, don't just tell people about the show.
Please put a widget to the live stream on your website or your blog.
Word of mouth is going to be key to our success (our shoe-string
budget prevents us from doing any extensive advertising) and the
easier it is for people to find the stream, the more people around
the world will become a part of the WHY? radio community.
Finally, Don't keep your reactions to yourself.
Post your thoughts on our discussion page (the latest comments are
displayed below). Our other listeners will want to read what is on
your mind and so will the show's host, producer, and guests.
Everyone at WHY? wants to know what you are thinking.
Philosophy is nothing if not a conversation, and we want to have it
with you!
